BIO
Dean Buckley is often referred to as a "DJ's DJ": With the depth of his collection and the breadth of his experience in a vast wilderness of genres and forums, DJs look to him to pull out the rare nuggets and up-and-coming bangers.
Dean began DJing in the early 2000s at West Hollywood's then-biggest nightclub Rage for their "alternative" Mondays, perfecting a mix of modern and old-school mainstream-adjacent alt/indie dance hits and underground classics.
He hosted a weekly radio show 'That Damn Cat' for pirate radio station KBLT, indulging in his love of electronic music, hip hop and jazz, plying them into a cohesive mix for years until the station was shut down. In the back pages of station founder and future L.A. Times journalist Sue Carpenter's memoir on the subject, '40 Watts to Nowhere,' you'll find him credited as "Dean Berkeley."
Mr. Berkeley/Buckley has continued to DJ and promote his own nightclub events and as half of R&D: Desearch & Revelopment with partner DJ Ray.Only Hernandez. The duo programs a monthly radio show for KCHUNG 1630 AM (Chinatown) out of a residency agreement with MOCA's Geffen Contemporary.
As one of the promoters and resident DJs, Dean serves goth, synth- & darkwave and industrial music for the influential She's in Parties at Precinct DTLA, L.A.'s largest gay nightclub. He sets the ambience for queer culture-focused Homo Megamix and co-promotes and -spins dancefloor stompers from all eras for Bearded Pig Disco. Dean continues to provide the soundtrack for steamy warehouse play parties Pound, Wolf & Beefcake. He has provided the soundtrack for Sunday afternoon beer busts, VPL underwear parties, artist-specific events (Madonna Monday, Prince-themed D.M.S.R.). He is also the creative force behind Halloween-themed event Murder Bar and its Easter corollary, Murder Bunny.
